Introduction to Sociology


SWK 101


Sociology is the scientific and therefore systematic study of social behavior, interaction, and human groups. This course introduces students to sociological concepts, including the sociological imagination, socialization, social stratification, and social inequality. This course also examines sociological perspectives on deviance and social control. An emphasis is placed on understanding the influence of social structures, institutions, and relationships on people’s behaviors and lives.
